Vinyl: Handmade Cover
This project was extremely exciting because I was able to create something entirely handmade. Being a musician myself, I chose to go the music route and create a vinyl cover for one of my favorites, Etta James. In order to represent Etta James and her prominence in the jazz scene, I chose to work with brass colored wire. This is a reference to brass instruments such as trumpets, trombones, and tubas that are commonly found in jazz ensembles. The yellow flowers symbolize Etta's blonde hair, and the concept of the flower itself was chosen as a nod to Etta's struggle with heroin, a powerful drug extracted from poppy flowers. The result is an outline of Etta James profile, spiraling into her name, and overlapped by a bouquet of beautiful yellow flowers. The entire image intends to describe the beauty the Etta James brought to the world, through the power of song. Student work.
